One of the things that many people overlook when dealing with securing their own or their clients WordPress sites is what’s right in front of them, their computers, their refrigerator, their smartphones or tablets.

Okay, maybe the fridge is not that big of a risk. But the rest of these items pose a potential threat. Things like viruses, malware and weak passwords can be that proverbial weakest link, you can have the most secure admin area of your WordPress site. But if you have a key logger on your computer that got there by way of some nasty malware, then whomever is monitoring that key logger has access to every password and username you type into your keyboard viruses infect files on your computer, that when you upload them to your WordPress site infects your site and possibly the entire server your site is on which includes all the other sites on that same server.

And don’t even get me started on weak passwords with free and inexpensive programs that will generate and easily remember the strongest passwords possible. There are zero excuses for not having only strong unguessable passwords. So let’s go and take a look at some of the solutions to these easily fixed yet often overlooked problems. Now we’re bytes and a vast both have powerful and free options. They do however, have annoying reminders that regularly pop up telling you to purchase their paid versions. Now before windows 10.

I would run a combination of Malwarebytes and Kaspersky. But then I moved to a vast from Kaspersky. But again, that was before I got windows 10. Because now with Windows 10, I only use Malwarebytes and Microsoft defender that’s the built in virus protection within Windows 10. Now for help on properly configuring Microsoft defender to work along with other anti malware or antivirus apps, just do a Google or Bing search for something like now we’re bites and Microsoft defender for Windows 10. Now here’s a site that runs different tests on various antivirus programs and ranks them six being the best number, but they rank them based on protection, performance and usability. And you can find this site at a v dash test.org right, here’s the name and just poke around the site.

And you’ll see that they have different types of tests based on the operating system or device type. And if it’s a home user or business user, but as of October 2020 Come on down here. You see Microsoft defender has got three perfect scores. And since you already have that built in that is of course if you’re using Windows 10 you really don’t need any other third party applications like Malwarebytes Avast, Kaspersky or the like. Just make sure that is properly configured. Now whichever option that you choose, just make sure and use something to protect your computer from outside viruses and malware. Now to close this class out. I want to also cover password managers. There are some great free options as well as premium options. And a being or Google search will provide several great options to choose from now since the security of the top browsers like Microsoft Edge Firefox and Chrome have greatly improved. Even their built in password managers are a great viable option.

Now since LastPass, was sold to a couple of private equity firms in late 2019. I’ve moved away from them and I now use bit Warden for whether it’s bit Warden LastPass dash lane roboform, free or paid versions, just know that there are so many password manager programs available. You have zero excuses on not having a unique unguessable powerful password for every single login that you have. Just don’t forget the main password that you use to access your password manager. That’s going to bring us to the end of this class on securing your local work area against viruses and other baddies that mean to harm your WordPress site.

Thanks for checking it out and you have a great day.
