Blog Setup – Part 4 – Lead Generation
Video Transcript
In this class, we’re going to cover lead generation preparation and set up for your WordPress site.
Now lead generation is a process that allows communication between you and the site visitor. This communication process can be through them following you on Twitter or liking your Facebook page or joining your Facebook group, or as I’m going to cover in this class using our sites comment system to further build on the communication between us and the site visitor.
Now, if you are active on social media, then you should definitely get your site visitors to follow you on your various social channels by adding some type of clickable buttons that are linked to your Facebook page, YouTube channel, or Twitter account.
So why all the fuss about lead generation? Studies show that roughly 75% of your site visitors that find you through search engines will never return to your site.
So adding these communication tools to your site, we’ll help you benefit more from all your SEO efforts than just the 25% of return traffic. Okay. That’s pretty much the why. Now for the how and the previous class we covered setting up comments on our posts. Normally when someone posts a comment on your site, the page usually just refreshes and they see the same page with the comment on it or a note saying that that comment is getting looked over before going live. You know, kind of a moderation thing. We’re now going to be adding a plugin that’s going to send your site visitor that submits a comment to your post to a different page. Now what you put on this page is up to you, but a couple of suggestions are make it a thank you page with a link or links to some high quality freebies or a discount coupon to one of your offers or even a subscription form that they can use to join your newsletter.
Or even better, all of the above. Just do not put too many choices on the page which could trigger information overload and then they end up doing nothing or better yet here. Maybe add a something like step one, do this. Step two do this. You don’t like step one, click this link to get your Freebie, blah, blah, blah. Step two into your email information and your name to join my newsletter. Step three, you get the idea. So first let’s go ahead and create a new page and then add whatever content that you want the first time comment or to see on that page. So let’s head on over to pages, add new course, log into your admin area first and give it a title. I’m going to go ahead and name mine, thank you for commenting or something like that. And then in the block, underneath the title into your content.
Again, whatever you want to keep things moving along, that’s my content. And then go ahead and publish and publish. Now let’s head over to plugins, add new and in the search box up here for your plugins, type in comment, redirect. And here’s the plugin we’re going to be installing. And this is very simple, super lightweight. It only has one job and we’ll take a look at that in just a second. But I do want to point out that this is created by the same folks that create the Seo Plugin by Yoast. Now if we scroll down just a little bit, where did, where’d it go? Where’d it go? Here we are Yoast comment hacks. This created by the same folks takes that comment, redirect and adds a whole lot more bells and whistles, not quite as lightweight as well. I’m going to be showing you, but if you want to check this one out on your own time and maybe see if all the extras that go on with this appeal to you more than just the basics that I’m going to show you.
Go ahead and check this one out too. Again, it’s made by the same folks, so you know quality is just as good, but it’s not as lightweight. Again, check this out if you want to, but we’re going to go with this one here.
Install now and activate and over here under the plugins admin section in the Sidebar, we’ve got the settings for our comment, redirect Gwen, click on that and this is all there is to it. And the redirect dropdown, select a page we just created. This is the one we just created here. And then save settings. That’s it. We’re done. And now let’s go to one of our posts. Actually let’s just go ahead and open up our site in a new incognito browser, right click private window. And let’s come on down to our posts. This way I’m pretending to be a site visitor and I was going to check this post out here and I’ve enabled comments on this post here.
So let’s just put something in here, the name, email, I’m gonna leave the rest of this stuff empty and then post comment. And here we are on our thank you page. Thank you for your comment and you see right up. Here’s the page, here’s our placeholder content. Works perfectly. Now before I close out this class, I do want to mention there are other lead generation opportunities to be had within the comments of your site.
One is to offer a subscribe to comments form. Let’s go ahead and close this out here. Come on back to add new plugins in a search plugins box type subscribe to comments and it’s this one right here. Subscribe to comments reloaded. Be sure to check this out on your own time, but I do want to point out though that this does just like the package says, it’s allows your site visitors that comment to your post to subscribe to that post and some of the benefits to a feature like this is that the commenters are notified whenever new comments are made and they are likely to return to your site to check them out every time someone visits or revisit your site.
There’s a greater chance to deal become a customer as well as a site visitor. Plus this increases your page views and brand recognition. Now in the next class, we’re going to connect our site to an auto responder service, and that’s going to bring us to the end of this class on setting up your WordPress site for lead generation. Thanks for checking it out and you have a great day.
